the challenge

The client goal is to utilize online platforms to build community, engage members, and in the end, increase congregation size through promoting all church services, functions, and activities.  Prioritization of business goals need to be established throughout the site. Marketing needs to be synchronized.  Information architecture structure needs to be established.

To Simplify: There are too many choices for navigation. My first task was to research the existing the current solution as well as the competition. An aged website design and site organization alerted me to do some research including Google Analytics review, user flow creation/review, directed user ethnographic interviews, and usability tests. Matching business goals with user needs helped foster discussions that clarified priorities. A foundation for decision making for the stake holders helped my design process.

my approach

content

Once simplify and whitespace had been agreed upon, I turned this concept to the layout design. Using goals and priorities to identify the hierarchy for a page or section, the corporate branding and messaging helped set design direction. Imagery content and photos along with established copy rounded out the structure to be designed. Below is the existing newsletter design style:

wire frames

Once the stake holders understood the decision making process, basic layout as low res wire frames developed quickly. Mapping new potential user flows will be the next step in elevating user experience while meeting established goals. There will be upcoming user research to verify the initial wireframes are delivering on target.

More to come...
